I attended “Together on a Mission” conference, a few years ago and have always appreciated some of the podcasts coming out from this New Frontiers conference. Yet this year the most moving and challenging preach of all was brought by someone who wasn’t even there. PJ Smyth leads GodFirst Church in Johannesburg, South Africa, a 5-year old church plant. He was scheduled to speak this year in Brighton but withdrew hours before travelling, due to a cancer scare. Technically, therefore, [...]

Beautiful prayer from Richard Rohr: ” O Loving God, we thank you for bringing us the rivers and streams of this world. May the rivers we know be an image of the stream that you want to flow within each one of us. Teach us now, take away all fear, dare to let us believe that we could really be a small part of a reconstructed society, that we could build again. Take away our own cynicism. Take away our [...]
I love the complex, the challenging and at times the confusing…but simplicity trumps it all! I came across this comment in my reading, that this was Martin Luther’s two-fold approach to life: 1. Trust in Christ. 2. see number 1!
Easter is (often) so bright and upbeat. Nobody would argue Easter Sunday is a day of celebration. We celebrate that Jesus conquered death so we can have life. It doesn’t get any better than Easter Sunday. Day three. But we don’t hear a lot about day one and two? After the crucifixion on day one and leading into day two it almost seems as if nothing is happening. It’s a period of questioning, doubting, wondering, and definitely waiting. It’s a [...]
your Easter truth,…? your renewed orientation? your best confidence….?! “Repentance spends less time looking at the past and saying “I’m sorry,” than to the future and saying, “Wow!” Frederich Buechner I think so,…… God says so!
God says, I want you to realize that I never underestimated how thoroughly you’d mess up your life or how painfully you would struggle and suffer and I don’t want you to underestimate your failures or struggles either. They’re all part of the story I’m telling. But neither have I underestimated My determination or ability to enter the mess you’ve made and the pain you feel and turn everything around. I can, and I will, make everything good again. (More [...]
God is not absent. Not distracted. He sees. He knows. He cares. And He’s doing something about it.
Today I had great fun, preaching from Nehemiah 2 v 1-10 and I didn’t even set the passage! Most of you know I’ve been brought back to this book, time-after-time….. I took a different tack to the passage, and resisted checking over previous preaches from this passage! I contend that it’s often the hardest thing to turn intention into action! Yetwithal making it happen is vital! My original thought is this:- Faith is a living, daring confidence in God’s grace! [...]
